If the till at Spar scans higher than the price on the shelf, you don’t have to pay the difference. Under Section 23(6) of the CPA, the lowest displayed price applies.
When Spar displays more than one price for an item, you pay the lowest one, even if it’s “a barcode glitch”.

Snap the price tag and the product before the tag can be removed or swapped.

Common questions
Can Spar say the shelf tag was old?
Under Section 23(6), if the price is displayed for the item, the lower displayed price applies. An outdated tag is the store’s responsibility.
What if I already paid the higher price?
Keep your till slip and photo of the shelf tag, and ask for a refund of the difference. Our notice has an option for this.
Where do I complain if the store refuses?
Lodge a free complaint with the Consumer Goods & Services Ombud (CGSO). You can also report it to the National Consumer Commission.
